Burlesque

I researched the newest theatrical/musical film released in early 2011 and noticed that the same codes and conventions have been applied. From these images I can make clear links to musicals such as Chicago, Dream Girls and Moulin Rouge and also to my music video itself. The costume in each of these images is embellished with sequins. Sequins connote glamour and draw in the audiences attention. In the last image Christina Aguilera wears a hat which suggests she has power. The use of the chairs is a common prop used in music videos such as Britney Spears circus and in west end musicals such as Chicago, this is also a convention I have featured in my music video. Again the contrast of bright lighting with the dark background put the artist in a position of power and focus. The red lighting used in the first image connotes power and lust which is highlighted further by the male dancers who surround the main artist.
